Just People
Bio

JUST PEOPLE are the dedicated offspring of a generation of movers and shakers. Take the eloquence of Bob Dylan, mixed with the sheer power of Led Zeppelin, add a dash of The Beatles and for a nice after taste throw in some Talking Heads. The result is best described by Darcy Wallace of the Oregon Voice: “JUST PEOPLE are tough to pin down, but damn it, it just sounds so good.”

Derived from the mind of idealistic front man Scott Gilmore, JUST PEOPLE combines the optimism of our past with the dedication and energy of today’s youth. Serena Markstrom of the Register Guard explains, “Scott Gilmore is an incorrigible idealist.”

Although the recordings are strong, a JUST PEOPLE live show is not something to be missed. Alex Gabriel of the daily Emerald says, “JUST PEOPLE's down home soul comes alive during their live shows, laced with grooved out licks and high energized improvisation.

In the end we are all JUST PEOPLE

Members

Scott Gilmore - Lead Vocals, Piano, Guitar

Scott Gilmore is a force.  If only by chance you happened to stumble into a venue hosting a Just People show you would immediately find yourself in a current of energy that would inevitably bring you as close as you can physically get to the stage on which Scott stands.  Once there, you would feel an uninterupted connection to the music and soul that carry his words to your ears.  Don't think that this spell that is cast upon you is made of magic.  Indeed, Scott is armed with a journalism degree from the University of Oregon, over fifteen years of songwriting, a fierce grip on the guitar and piano, and an uncanny ability to create melodies that will not soon be forgotten.  The Register Guard claims that, "Scott Gilmore is an incorrigible
idealist".  But, it is with this necessary abandon that Scott navigates the terra firma in his transcendental pilgrimage to awaken the world.

Todd Gee - Bass

Todd Gee holds such a strong bond with the bass that it is hard to know which is is the instrument and which is the player.  Go back about a decade to Todd's early high school years and you will find a young student studying under a decorated teacher and progressing in skill at an alarming rate.  Put this same kid into a univesity town like Eugene, OR, overflowing with people with the desire to form a band, and you get a highly popular individual with more nicknames than anyone you know.  Add to that a dedication to quality of tone, an uncanny ability to navigate the neck, and an insatiable appetite for exactness and you get a bass player that everyone who ever dreamt of being a rockstar wants to know.  If it is proof you seek, turn up the low end a little on some Just People tunes.  You will quickly discover that Todd can effortlessly manipulate the emotion and character of a song without so much as a bead of sweat descending from his brow.  We call him "The Magic Man" and he's ours.

Ian Ridgeway - Guitar, Backing Vocals

Ian Ridgeway carries himself like he knows the worlds greatest secret and is prepared to share it all with you.  With over a decade of guitar under his proverbial belt, you can bet this life Jedi can find his way into your heart, if not through music than by his indomitable spirit.  As if guitar mastery wasn't enough, Ian happens to Captain tall ships and is in the movie "Almost Famous".  That's no joke by the way.  Lucky for us, Ian has put aside his days on the big screen to help guide us to the promised land.  Whether you are out on the high seas or rocking a packed gig, Ian is a man you want on your side.

Alex Greene - Drums

On May 15th, 1986 rock and roll birthed a child and they named him Alex Greene.  Starting off on piano at the the age of eight, Alex learned to read basic music before he was dividing fractions.  In sixth grade he started banging on a snare drum in school band and soon after bought his first drum kit off a friend for 100 bucks.  It was in high school that he first started playing in bands, but his ability to keep a beat is most likely innate.  Now, with a chemistry degree from the University of Oregon, Alex lives his life in a world of rhythm and reverb only making contact with the people of this plane to sustain his body.  Can he play? If speed, power, precision, and a distinct feel for the groove are attributes you seek in a drummer then you got it.

Peter Marcott - Guitar, Backing Vocals

Peter Marcott is a throwback to the days where guitar solos could slice your ears in half in just one bar. Dubbed “The End” for his ability to close down shows with the audience in an uproar, Marcott creates licks that haven’t graced our speakers since the likes of Jimi Hendrix. This virtuoso isn’t just a shredder, he holds a bachelor of music in jazz studies from the University of Oregon, has had up to 45 guitar and bass students at one time, and can without any preparation for the task release from his fingers an improvised song that sounds fit for an orchestra.  Combining a rich musical background with shear unbelievable talent, Peter Marcott is a name that will be remembered, or you can just call him "The End".
